Life-form & Growth Form:

Hemicryptophyte. Herbaceous perennial. Shortly creeping and stoloniferous.  

Flowering period: 

August.

Habitats: 

Montane base-rich cliffs, crags and screes, typically in flushed areas.  

Threats:

Overgrazing by livestock prevents flower and seed production. Being an Arctic-alpine species, S. alpina may succumb to the effects of climate change in the longer term.
