Life-form & Growth Form:

Non-bulbous geophyte. Herbaceous perennial. Rhizome far-creeping. 

Flowering period: 

July and August.

Habitats: 

Rocky woodland, ravines, stream banks, cliff ledges and stable block screes. Open, light textured peaty soils with high humus content, also moderate pH mineral soils.  

Threats:

Peat extraction. Drainage of peatlands. Overgrazing by livestock.
