Limosella aquatica. Water mudwort.

Life-form & Growth Form:

Therophyte. Annual. Stoloniferous, with far-creeping by stolons.

Flowering period:

July to October.

Lakeside mud which is exposed after periods of summer drought. Requires nutrient input from animal dung/bird droppings.

Specific habitat conditions are required, which appear to be declining. As L. aquatica produces erratic quantities of seed from year to year and the species can be spontaneous in its abundance from year to year, changing habitat conditions can extremely detrimental to its long-term survival.
