Monotropa hypopitys. Yellow bird’s-nest.
Life-form & Growth Form:
Non-bulbous geophyte. Herbaceous erennial. Rhizomatous, rhizome shortly creeping.
Flowering period:
June to August.
Habitats:
Shaded, scrubby woodland, typically under Fagus and Corylus.
Threats:
Habitat loss and fragmentation through woodland clearance. Lack of fencing around woodlands allows livestock to enter and destroy ground layer vegetation. Under-grazing within woodlands allows species rich ground flora to become shaded out by scrub.
