Hordelymus europaeus. Wood barley.

Life-form & Growth Form:

Hemicryptophyte. Herbaceous perennial. Tussock-forming, may slowly spread.  

Flowering period: 

June and July.

Habitats: 

Found in sheltered woodlands, old hedgerows and boundary banks. Lowland, on calcareous soils. 

Threats:

Habitat destruction through drainage, overgrazing and under grazing, poaching by livestock, mowing, agricultural intensification. Excessive trampling by livestock due to absence of waterside exclusion fencing. Last seen in 2011 it may be extinct in NI.
