Life-form & Growth Form:

Hemicryptophyte. Herbaceous biennial/monocarpic perennial. Little/no vegetative spread.  

Flowering period: 

June to October.


Sandy sea-cliffs. Calcareous soils (overlying chalk). Coastal sandhills/sandy open areas/ waste ground. Disturbed ground e.g. rabbit warrens, building sites. Lowland.  


Increased use of herbicides. Habitat loss as a result of coastal development. Uprooted byfarmers as it is poisonous to animals. Cyclical decline in Rabbit populations may affect abundance as requires periodically disturbed ground to trigger seed germination.
