Habitats:
Long-established woodland, usually within demesnes and estates. Dry, shaded, sparsely vegetated, close to water areas. Acidic, humus-poor, well drained substrates: flinty clay or sandstones. Sand dunes. Lowland.
Threats:
Woodland clearance for agriculture and development. Trampling of path-side plants by walkers. Undergrazing / under management of woodland understorey leading to scrub encroachment.
